Barcelona is a coastal city in Catalonia, northeastern Spain, located on the Mediterranean Sea between the Llobregat and Besòs rivers. It is one of the busiest cruise ports in the Mediterranean and is mainly used as a turnaround port, with many cruises beginning and ending here. The port’s modern appearance is the result of a major waterfront transformation. In preparation for the 1992 Summer Olympics, former industrial areas filled with warehouses, rail yards and factories were redeveloped into a more open and attractive harbourfront.
