Norwegian Dawn is a cruise ship operated by Norwegian Cruise Line. She entered service in 2002 and carries around 2,350 guests, placing her in the mid sized category. She was the third ship in the Norwegian fleet designed around the line's Freestyle Cruising concept, which puts an emphasis on flexibility and a relaxed atmosphere rather than formal routines. Her sister ship is Norwegian Star, which entered service in 2001. Dawn was christened in Manhattan in December 2002 by actress Kim Cattrall and was the first Norwegian Cruise Line ship to feature hull artwork, a feature that later became common across the fleet.
Freestyle Cruising is reflected in the way the ship is arranged and used. There is no formal dress code, while complimentary dining rooms offer flexible seating so guests can decide when and where they want to eat. Specialty restaurants provide further choice, including Moderno Churrascaria, La Cucina and Los Lobos, giving diners Brazilian, Italian and Mexican inspired options.
The ship has 1,170 staterooms across 33 categories, including suites, balcony, ocean view and inside accommodation. A refurbishment in 2011 added 50 cabins and reworked several public areas, increasing the ship's capacity by around 100 guests. The range of accommodation gives couples, families and solo travellers several options depending on the type of cabin they prefer.
There is plenty happening around the ship during the day. The Oasis Pool is surrounded by deck space and has a poolside bar and ice cream bar, while six hot tubs provide other places to relax outdoors. An enclosed basketball and volleyball court gives active guests somewhere to play away from the pool area. The Mandara Spa offers more than 50 treatments, creating a quieter alternative to the livelier public spaces.
Evenings bring stage shows, live music, bars and lounges spread throughout the ship. The choice makes it easy to keep the night relaxed or find somewhere with more atmosphere after dinner.
