Constructed over five years by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, she entered service in May 2012 and was officially christened during a ceremony in Hamburg. Serving as the sixth vessel in her class alongside sister ships AIDAblu, AIDAstella, and AIDAsol, she accommodates approximately 2,200 guests.
