About Los Angeles
Los Angeles sits on San Pedro Bay in the San Pedro neighborhood, roughly 20 miles south of downtown. The World Cruise Center, located in San Pedro beneath the Vincent Thomas Bridge, has three passenger ship berths and serves over a million passengers a year, making it one of the busiest cruise terminals on the West Coast. It works primarily as a turnaround port, with most ships sailing for Hawaii, Mexico, or up the California and Oregon coasts, while some depart on longer transatlantic or Panama Canal repositioning voyages.
The location puts guests close to some of the city's best known sights. A pedestrian promenade links the port to waterfront attractions including the USS Iowa Museum, the Los Angeles Maritime Museum and the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium. Beyond the waterfront, Los Angeles is known worldwide for its film industry heritage, its beaches and its outdoor culture, and guests with time to spare can visit the Hollywood Walk of Fame, wander Venice Beach and its promenade, or head inland to the Getty Centre, Griffith Park or one of the city's many theatres.
A vintage trolley runs along the waterfront, connecting the cruise terminals with downtown San Pedro, Ports O'Call Village and the San Pedro Marina. The LA Waterfront itself spans more than 400 acres of Port of Los Angeles land across San Pedro and Wilmington, with miles of walking paths and open space that make for an easy stroll before or after a cruise.
