Santa Catalina Island is a rocky island forming part of the Channel Islands, situated off the coast of Southern California in the Gulf of Santa Catalina, about 29 miles south-southwest of Long Beach. Cruise ships drop anchor at sea near Avalon, the primary port town on the southeastern coast, where passengers are transported using tender boats between the anchored vessel and the historic Green Pleasure Pier.

This picturesque destination typically functions as a port of call primarily on voyages traveling from California down to Mexico and the Baja Peninsula. The 12-storey art deco casino remains one of the island's most distinctive architectural features, carrying forward a rich historical legacy that also includes the town's era as the Chicago Cubs spring training home from 1921 to 1951.

The island's 50 miles of shoreline combine natural beauty with abundant activities, from the Wrigley Memorial and Botanical Garden overlooking Avalon Bay to undersea kelp gardens teeming with vibrant marine life like garibaldi, kelp bass, and leopard sharks. Local culinary highlights include fresh seafood and lobster rolls alongside the island's famous buffalo milk ice cream, all located within a short walk of the pier.
