Norwegian Joy is a Breakaway Plus class cruise ship operated by Norwegian Cruise Line. She entered service in 2017 and carries around 3,800 guests, placing her in the large ship category. Built by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, she was originally designed for the Chinese market and was the first cruise ship purpose built for China. Her Chinese name translates as "Inner Joy", reflecting the ship's original focus on the Chinese holiday market.
A major refurbishment in 2019 brought Norwegian Joy closer in style to Norwegian Bliss, adding refreshed public spaces and expanding her dining and entertainment choices. The ship has a lively atmosphere, with plenty of venues spread across the decks. The Manhattan Room, Savor Restaurant and Taste Restaurant provide the main dining choices, while a wider selection of restaurants gives guests plenty of alternatives when they want something different.
The Haven provides a quieter setting for guests staying in Norwegian's premium accommodation, with suites and villas, 24 hour butler service, a private pool and the two level Horizon Lounge. Elsewhere, the ship balances busy social spaces with places where guests can take a break from the crowds. There are swimming pools, a spa, lounges and bars, along with entertainment ranging from comedy and live music to stage productions.
One of Norwegian Joy's most distinctive features is her two level go kart track, positioned high above the sea and inspired by Formula 1 racing. It was the first Ferrari branded racetrack at sea and gives guests a very different way to spend time on board. Waterslides and a ropes course add more active choices, while the hull artwork by Chinese artist Tan Ping incorporates a mythical red phoenix and sweeping ocean waves, reflecting the ship's original connection with China.
Accommodation ranges from inside cabins to oceanview and balcony staterooms, with options suited to couples, families and solo travellers. The Haven provides the most spacious accommodation, while the wider cabin range makes the ship accessible to different types of holidaymakers.
Norwegian Joy suits travellers who enjoy a large ship with plenty of dining, entertainment and activities. The go kart track and waterslides provide plenty for active guests, while the range of lounges, restaurants and quieter spaces allows others to take the day at a slower pace.
