Oasis of the Seas is a cruise ship operated by Royal Caribbean International that entered service in October 2009. Accommodating up to 6,669 guests, she is a large cruise ship and the first vessel in the Oasis class. Originally developed under the project name "Project Genesis", she introduced a new approach to cruise ship design that influenced many ships built afterwards. She was officially named during a charity sailing supporting the Make A Wish Foundation, with seven godmothers taking part in the ceremony, including Gloria Estefan, Michelle Kwan, Dara Torres, Keshia Knight Pulliam, Shawn Johnson, Jane Seymour and Daisy Fuentes.
One of the ship's defining features is the collection of themed neighbourhoods that create distinct areas with their own atmosphere. Central Park brings together thousands of living plants, walking paths, restaurants and open air seating, while the Boardwalk draws inspiration from traditional seaside piers with shops, casual dining and a hand carved carousel. These outdoor spaces encourage guests to spend time strolling, relaxing or enjoying a meal in the fresh air.
Dining is a major part of life on board, with around 20 venues offering a wide variety of cuisines and settings. Choices range from casual cafés and buffets to speciality restaurants for more leisurely evenings. Accommodation is equally varied, from comfortable inside cabins to spacious suites, including the distinctive two deck Loft Suites that overlook the ship's interior.
Entertainment is available throughout the day and into the evening. Guests can watch spectacular performances in the AquaTheater, enjoy Broadway style productions, skate on the ice rink, try the surf simulator or take on the Ultimate Abyss dry slide. There are also swimming pools, sports courts, a miniature golf course, comedy and karaoke venues, a casino, numerous bars and lounges, and dedicated youth clubs and nurseries for younger guests.
Oasis of the Seas remains one of Royal Caribbean's most recognisable ships thanks to her innovative design and enormous choice of activities. She is well suited to families, couples and groups of friends looking for a lively holiday with plenty to see and do, while still offering peaceful corners to relax between the day's adventures.
