Brilliance of the Seas is a Radiance class cruise ship operated by Royal Caribbean. She entered service in 2002 and carries around 2,500 guests, placing her in the mid sized category. Built with the Radiance class's characteristic emphasis on glass and natural light, she offers a more intimate alternative to Royal Caribbean's largest ships. Marilyn Ofer christened the ship in July 2002, before she began her maiden voyage on a seven night Norwegian Fjords cruise.
Glass is central to the ship's character. The seven deck Centrum forms the main social hub, with extensive glazing bringing views of the sea into the interior. The Lobby Bar becomes a lively meeting place in the evening, particularly when the space turns to after dinner dancing. Elsewhere, the Pacifica Theater occupies two decks and hosts production shows and games, while the Solarium provides a quieter adults only setting beneath a glass canopy, with whirlpools and places to relax.
There is plenty to keep active guests occupied. The rock climbing wall rises alongside the ship's smokestack, while a mini golf course and waterslide provide more casual activities. Izumi offers Asian dining and sushi, with classes available for guests who want to learn more about making their own dishes. Around the ship, a selection of lounges and bars provides different settings for drinks, conversation and evening entertainment.
Accommodation ranges from inside cabins and oceanview rooms to balcony staterooms and suites. The ship has 1,075 staterooms across 32 categories, with a strong selection of balcony accommodation. Larger suites provide considerably more space, including the Royal Suite, which has a private terrace overlooking the sea.
The ship's size makes it straightforward to explore without sacrificing variety. Guests can move between the Centrum, dining venues, pools and entertainment spaces without the distances found on Royal Caribbean's newest ships. At the same time, the extensive glass and open public areas keep the sea visible from many parts of the ship.
Brilliance of the Seas suits couples, families and first time cruisers who want a mid sized ship with a good mixture of dining, entertainment and activities. She offers enough choice for a full day on board while retaining the more manageable feel of an established Radiance class ship.
