Adventure of the Seas is a Voyager class ship operated by Royal Caribbean International, entering service in 2001. She carries around 3,807 guests, putting her in the mid-sized bracket, and was built at the Kværner Masa-Yards shipyard in Turku, Finland.
The ship's heart is the Royal Promenade, a four-deck-high indoor boulevard with an atrium at each end called the Centrum. Lined with shops, bars and cafés, it gives the ship a relaxed, walkable feel and works as a natural gathering spot throughout the day.
Dining is a strong point. Three main dining rooms run My Time Dining, so guests can choose when to eat, while the Windjammer Cafe covers casual buffet meals and a 24-hour cafe is on hand for anyone after a late night bite. Specialty options include Giovanni's Table for Tuscan style cooking, Izumi for fresh sushi and Asian inspired plates, and Chops Grille for steakhouse classics. Adventure of the Seas is currently the only ship in the fleet with its Izumi located right on the Royal Promenade rather than tucked away on a higher deck.
For activities, there is an outdoor movie screen, an Aqua Park with cyclone and typhoon water slides, and a FlowRider, plus Splashaway Bay, an interactive water play area for younger kids with cannons and geysers. Staterooms cover the usual mix of balcony, oceanview and inside cabins, giving families and couples plenty of choice depending on budget. In 2016 the ship went through a substantial refurbishment that added more staterooms and refreshed much of the public space.
When the Adventure of the Seas was named, her godparents were drawn from the New York Fire and Police Departments, a tribute to their service. The Voyager class she belongs to also introduced a run of cruising firsts, including the first rock climbing wall and ice skating rink at sea.
She suits families, active adults and first-time cruisers after a relaxed mid-sized ship with a solid mix of dining, activities and water-based fun.
