Originally developed for commercial maritime use during the 1930s, the 430-acre peninsula was repurposed during World War II as the Military Ocean Terminal at Bayonne, serving as a critical supply depot for the United States military. Following its decommission in 1999, the area briefly hosted film production studios before resuming maritime passenger service in 2004.
