About Tokyo cruise port

LOCODE: 7231

Tokyo extends across the southern shore of Honshu Island along Tokyo Bay, serving as Japan's sprawling capital and largest metropolis with a population of approximately fourteen million residents.

Functioning primarily as a major turnaround port where global voyages begin and end alongside occasional transit calls, the city features multiple maritime facilities including Takeshiba, Hinode, and the prominent Tokyo International Cruise Terminal.

International cruise vessels originally docked at the Harumi Passenger Terminal starting in nineteen ninety-one, though its inland position required ships to pass beneath the Rainbow Bridge and its fifty-two-metre air draft restriction as vessels grew larger.

To accommodate the world's largest cruise liners, the modern Tokyo International Cruise Terminal opened in the Aomi area on September tenth, twenty twenty, outside the bridge barrier. Furthermore, the historic Harumi terminal reopened following a major redevelopment project, welcoming its first post-renovation ship call on November first, twenty twenty-five.

Renamed Tokyo in eighteen sixty-eight following the overthrow of the Tokugawa dynasty, the former Edo area evolved into the downtown core housing the majestic Imperial Palace and surrounding green spaces. Because the cityscape suffered devastating destruction during the nineteen twenty-three Great Kanto earthquake and the Second World War, the urban landscape features a predominantly modern architectural profile punctuated by iconic structures like Tokyo Tower and the towering Tokyo Skytree, which opened in twenty twelve at six hundred thirty-four metres as Japan's tallest building.

Travelers stepping ashore discover world-class cultural treasures across northern districts, from the ancient shrines, pagodas, and extensive collections of the Tokyo National Museum within Ueno Park to the sacred grounds of Senso-ji temple and the upscale luxury shopping boutiques of Ginza.

During spring, thousands gather in historic green spaces like Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden for vibrant cherry blossom viewing picnics, while July brings a magnificent fireworks extravaganza over the Sumida River that attracts over one million spectators.
