Star Breeze is a German built cruise ship completed in 1989, originally launched as Seabourn Spirit. She entered service with Windstar Cruises on 6 May 2015, and following a 2020 refurbishment now carries around 312 guests, placing her firmly among the small ships that let passengers enjoy a level of service and intimacy mainstream cruising simply can't match.
Star Breeze and her two sister ships, Star Pride and Star Legend, rank as the largest vessels in Windstar's fleet. Back in early 2005, she was rated the best small cruise ship by Conde Nast, and she's continued evolving since. In 2019, the ship was quite literally stretched, cut in half with a new 84 foot section inserted in the middle, adding 100 extra passengers and 50 new staterooms in the process. Following that drydock stretch, Star Breeze now has 156 cabins and operates as an all suite vessel.
Dining aboard leans toward variety and refinement. Guests can choose from several inclusive venues, including AmphorA Restaurant, Yacht Club, and Sky Bar and Grill. In 2025, the ship introduced a new specialty restaurant, Basil and Bamboo, serving complimentary Mediterranean Asian fusion dishes, while the Veranda Cafe remains the go to for a more relaxed meal. All dining is included in the fare, along with premium beverages, room service, and complimentary watersports.
Onboard recreation and relaxation include a retractable marina platform for kayaking, paddleboarding, and other watersports, a fitness centre with ocean views, a screening room, and several pools and whirlpools scattered across the decks. Evenings tend to lean dressy, with formal nights on week long cruises and smart casual or casual dress the rest of the time.
With a shallow draft of just 14 feet, Star Breeze can reach ports that stay off-limits to larger cruise liners, opening up routes and destinations that big ships simply can't access. She suits travellers after the ease of an all-inclusive small ship, where personal attention and access to remote ports matter more than grand theatres and poolside spectacle.
