MSC Opera is a mid-sized Lirica-class cruise ship operated by MSC Cruises. Delivered in 2004, she served as the company's flagship until 2006 and stands as the fourth and final vessel of her class alongside sister ships Armonia, Sinfonia, and Lirica. Built along classic lines to accommodate 2,200 to 2,700 guests, her compact design grants access to intimate ports inaccessible to larger vessels. On July 4, 2015, the vessel completed a major jumboisation refurbishment by Fincantieri in Palermo under the Renaissance Program, expanding capacity while adding an outdoor spray park, expanded dining spaces, updated shops, and a brand-new lounge venue.
The ship delivers a traditional Italian cruise experience, featuring public decks named after famous Italian operas. Leisure and fitness amenities span a double pool complex with whirlpool baths, a power walking track, mini-golf, shuffleboard, and a fitness center. Evening venues include the Med Pearl Casino, live music at the La Cabala Piano Bar, late-night dancing at Byblos Disco, and mainstage productions inside Teatro dell'Opera. Spa amenities feature the MSC Aurea Spa, complete with therapeutic massages, a sauna, and a Turkish bath. Families traveling with youth benefit from custom play spaces created in partnership with LEGO, Chicco, and Namco, alongside virtual reality gaming and dedicated clubs for teenagers.
Dining aboard MSC Opera highlights authentic Italian flavors without any specialty restaurant surcharges. Primary meal service takes place across main dining rooms, supported by an expanded self-service buffet and casual onboard cafés.
Cabin configurations comprise 1,071 staterooms in total, offering a choice between 438 interior layouts, 401 oceanview rooms, 204 private balcony options, and 28 suites, alongside dedicated configurations for families.
Opera suits couples and families who want a compact, classically styled ship with a distinctly Italian character and good access to smaller, more intimate ports around the Mediterranean and beyond. Log your completed or upcoming voyage on MSC Opera in your account on The Cruise Globe.
