Viking Neptune is a mid-sized cruise ship that entered service in 2022, the ninth in a series of identical vessels built for Viking Ocean Cruises. She carries 930 guests and offers a destination-oriented cruising experience, with fewer sea days, longer port stays and more overnight visits in key destinations. The ship was delivered by Fincantieri in November 2022 and christened in January 2023 in Los Angeles, with retired NASA astronaut and aquanaut Nicole Stott as her godmother.
Like her sister ships, Viking Neptune features an intimate, boutique hotel-style ambiance with Scandinavian-inspired decor, luxury fabrics, spacious lounges furnished with elegant leather seating, gourmet cuisine and a curated art collection. She has 465 staterooms across 18 categories, including 47 suites, 32 penthouses and 386 veranda and balcony cabins. Unlike most modern cruise ships, Viking Ocean vessels do not feature a casino.
Neptune was originally fitted with a hydrogen fuel cell module, a unique feature among her sisterships. The ship incorporates advanced maritime technologies including energy-efficient hybrid engines with diesel generators and gas turbines, optimized hull forms and bulbous bows, plus solar panels installed on the pool cover to reduce emissions. In keeping with Viking tradition, the ship's christening featured the ceremonial use of a Viking axe to release a bottle of aquavit against the hull, rather than champagne.
Viking Neptune suits travellers who prefer smaller, destination-focused ships with a refined Scandinavian atmosphere and the flexibility of flexible dining and extensive onboard amenities without the scale and bustle of large floating resorts.
