MS Fram is a purpose-built expedition cruise ship operated by HX Expeditions that officially entered commercial service in two thousand seven. Constructed with one B ice-class double hull capabilities, the small vessel carries approximately three hundred twenty passengers on specialized polar voyages across isolated ocean regions.
The vessel takes its name from the Norwegian word for forward, paying homage to the famous wooden sailing ship utilized by polar explorers Roald Amundsen and Fridtjof Nansen between eighteen ninety-three and nineteen twelve. Onboard interiors integrate natural oak, genuine leather, and warm wool to create a distinct Nordic aesthetic complemented by historical artifacts, scale models, and curated artwork depicting polar wildlife and frozen mountain peaks.
Public areas aboard the cruise ship feature an Observation Lounge providing two hundred seventy-degree panoramic views across surrounding polar landscapes. Outside on the Sun Deck, passengers can utilize two outdoor whirlpools enclosed by glass panels to maintain elevated comfort regardless of external weather conditions.
Main dining occurs within the two-level Aune Restaurant, a venue bounded by expansive picture windows on three sides to deliver uninhibited ocean views during daily meal services. Guest accommodations comprise one hundred thirty-seven staterooms distributed across eight distinct categories, including thirty-eight suites, eighty-eight oceanview cabins, nine interior rooms, and two accessible staterooms.
The largest accommodation option on board is the four hundred square foot Grand Suite, which features private balconies, separate sitting areas, and queen beds. Interactive educational opportunities take place inside the dedicated Fram Science Center, where passengers meet and engage directly with members of the ship's expert expedition team throughout each voyage.
Sailing schedules feature Arctic and Greenland voyages during the northern summer months before shifting to Antarctica expeditions throughout the southern winter season. The vessel caters to expedition-minded travelers who prioritize small group sizes, immersive polar environments, and specialized onboard scientific expertise.
