MS Midnatsol is a Hurtigruten vessel built in 2001, operated through HX Expeditions, carrying up to 970 passengers on Norwegian coastal routes and 500 on polar expeditions. She has a sister ship, MS Trollfjord, and both belong to Hurtigruten's Millennium class fleet. Her name, Midnatsol, means "Midnight Sun" in Norwegian, and her interior design carries a celestial, colourful theme, with numerous modern Norwegian artworks displayed throughout the ship.

Midnatsol combines a genuinely unusual mix of cargo capacity, car and passenger ferry services, expedition capabilities, and cruise amenities, with up to 50 guests able to bring their own vehicles aboard. She has 301 staterooms for 638 passengers, with accommodation ranging from inside cabins right up to owner's suites with private balconies. Onboard amenities include two bars, four lounges, a spa and sauna, and a fitness centre.

The Midnatsol Science Centre is a large scientific lounge fitted with high tech equipment including microscopes and touch screens, alongside a library, lecture halls, photo studio, conference room, expedition team room, and bar, with guidance provided throughout by Hurtigruten's expedition team. Passengers can join curated shore excursions and attend lectures by historians and naturalists covering Norwegian culture, holiday traditions, and the Arctic Northern Lights. The enrichment programme also brings in specialists who lead activities centred on Norway's natural treasures and cultural traditions, including friluftsliv, the Norwegian love of outdoor life.

MS Midnatsol operates under Hurtigruten's Norwegian Coastal Voyages programme, offering combined ferry and cruise services year round along Norway's coast, calling at 34 ports in total.

MS Midnatsol suits travellers who want to combine genuine Norwegian coastal transportation with expedition style discovery, whether chasing the midnight sun of northern summers or seeking Arctic experiences alongside a working crew.
