MS Zuiderdam is a Vista-class cruise ship operated by Holland America Line and stands as the lead vessel of the Vista class. Delivered in 2002 as the first ship in her class, she carries approximately 1,964 guests at double occupancy, placing her firmly in the mid-sized category. Her name is a traditional Dutch portmanteau, combining zuid (meaning south) with the classic -dam suffix featured on every ship in the fleet. She was christened by American broadcaster Joan Lunden at Port Everglades on December 14, 2002.

At the time of her debut, MS Zuiderdam was the largest ship ever constructed for Holland America Line, representing a distinct architectural evolution with an emphasis on open-air vistas and natural light. She was built with extensive floor-to-ceiling glass in her superstructure and was the first cruise ship to feature data sockets in every stateroom for internet connectivity.
