Nieuw Statendam is a Pinnacle class cruise ship operated by Holland America Line. She entered service in November 2018 and carries around 2,666 guests, placing her in the mid sized category. Built by Fincantieri, she is the second of three Pinnacle class ships and has a sister ship in Koningsdam. Her name continues a long Holland America tradition, following five earlier ships called Statendam, with the first dating back to the 1890s. Oprah Winfrey christened Nieuw Statendam in February 2019. With Accommodation that ranges from inside staterooms to suites, with a focus on comfortable surroundings and understated design.
The ship's interiors take inspiration from the shapes and lines of musical instruments. At the centre is a three deck high atrium dominated by a stainless steel sculpture that changes in appearance as guests move around it. The space works as a natural meeting point, with places to sit, have a coffee or drink, and watch the activity around the ship.
Dining is a major part of the appeal. The two storey Dining Room has floor to ceiling windows and a striking two story wine tower wrapped in copper. Menus draw on the work of Holland America Line's Culinary Council, which includes chefs such as Rudi Sodamin, David Burke, Elizabeth Falkner, Jacques Torres, Jonnie Boer and Mark Best. Alternative restaurants add Italian, Asian fusion and Japanese choices, while cafes and bars provide more casual options throughout the day.
Entertainment has a strong emphasis on music and natural history. BBC Earth content features in lectures and presentations, while evening performances draw on the themes of the broadcaster's nature programmes. The two deck ballroom hosts classical and blues performances. Guests can also spend time at the casino, join arts and crafts classes or relax in the spa. Outdoor facilities include an adults only sea view pool and a Lido Pool with a retractable roof. The overall atmosphere is more about relaxed days, good food and music than constant activity.
