Ventura is a large cruise ship operated by P&O Cruises. She entered service in April 2008 and carries around 3,100 guests, placing her among the large ships. Built at Fincantieri's yard in Monfalcone, Italy, Ventura is a Grand-class ship with a sister in Azura and was the first major new build for the UK market in the 2000s.

The ship was christened in Southampton by Dame Helen Mirren in a break with custom. Instead of the traditional champagne bottle, the christening marked Ventura's maiden voyage to the Mediterranean with a dramatic abseil performed by a team of Royal Marine Commandos, an unforgettable start to her life at sea.

Ventura represents something of a step forward in P&O design thinking. Her public spaces blend brightness and contemporary styling rather than the company's earlier reliance on traditional teak and cream interiors, with modern artwork and cheery decor throughout. At her heart lies an airy central atrium that draws people together across multiple decks, a natural gathering point for morning coffee or an evening drink.

Dining aboard covers most tastes. She has eight restaurants including three main dining rooms (Bay Tree, Saffron and Cinnamon) with flexible Freedom Dining, a buffet at the Waterside, the Beach House for informal fare, and specialty restaurants. A wine bar, traditional pub, and numerous cafes and bars complete the picture.

Entertainment runs across two decks in the Arena Theatre, where live shows, comedy and musical performances take place. There are also quiet spaces including a library and art gallery, a spa with sauna and steam room, a casino, and multiple pools including one with a retractable roof. Four pools, whirlpool spas and a well-equipped gym mean plenty of ways to stay active or unwind.

Ventura's cabins span a wide range. Most of the 1,556 staterooms feature outside cabins or balconies, with around 850 balcony rooms, spacious suites, and a growing selection of single cabins. She carries both families and older travellers, with dedicated kids' clubs and family pools alongside quieter zones for those seeking peace.

Ventura suits families, mixed-age groups and anyone wanting a substantial ship with diverse dining and entertainment, whether you seek activity and shows or prefer to retreat to a quiet corner with a book.
