Aurora is a cruise ship operated by P&O Cruises that entered service in April 2000. Built by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, she accommodates around 1,900 guests, making her a mid sized ship. She was named by Princess Anne in Southampton and was designed as an updated successor to the earlier Oriana, with a style that particularly appealed to British holidaymakers. Her maiden voyage was cut short after a technical issue with a propeller shaft bearing required the ship to return to port.
Aurora has a traditional ocean liner character that sets her apart within the P&O Cruises fleet. Her graceful profile, tiered stern and welcoming public spaces create a relaxed atmosphere that many returning guests appreciate. The impressive glass sculpture in the atrium acts as a striking centrepiece, drawing visitors into the heart of the ship and providing a popular meeting place throughout the day.
On board, guests will find a good balance of relaxation and entertainment. The Crow's Nest lounge is a favourite spot for enjoying panoramic sea views, while the Oasis Spa offers treatments and wellness facilities for those looking to unwind. Three swimming pools provide options for all weather, including one sheltered by a retractable roof. The ship also features a fitness centre, golf simulator, several bars and lounges, and a theatre with seating for around 600 guests, where live productions and entertainment take place each evening.
Accommodation includes a wide variety of cabin types, from comfortable inside and oceanview rooms to balcony cabins and spacious suites. Solo travellers are also catered for with dedicated single cabins, making Aurora a practical choice for a broad range of guests. A 2014 refit introduced P&O Cruises' distinctive Union Flag artwork on the bow, and in 2019 the ship became part of the line's adults only fleet, reinforcing her peaceful and relaxed atmosphere.
Aurora is particularly well suited to adults who enjoy a more traditional style of cruising, with comfortable surroundings, attentive service and a friendly onboard community. Her classic design, manageable size and distinctly British character continue to make her a popular choice for travellers looking for a quieter and more intimate cruise holiday.
