Donji Milanovac is a charming Danube River cruise port located in eastern Serbia's Majdanpek municipality, positioned along the scenic right bank of Lake Đerdap. Operating as a tranquil port of call on Lower Danube itineraries, the town serves as the primary administrative gateway to Đerdap National Park. River cruise vessels berth directly at the central town pier, allowing passengers to step ashore onto a quiet riverside promenade. Situated at a point where the Danube dramatically widens, the settlement offers peaceful waterfront views framed by forested mountains and steep river cliffs.
The town rests in the heart of the Iron Gates gorge, where the river narrows sharply before opening into expansive basins. Positioned near the iconic Veliki Kazan gorge section, the Danube narrows to just 170 meters wide with depths exceeding 90 meters before broadening to over 2,000 meters at Donji Milanovac. The area boasts deep historical roots; in 1830, Prince Miloš Obrenović relocated the town away from river floods, creating Serbia's first municipality designed using modern grid-style urban planning. Ancient Roman ruins from the former fort town of Taliata also lie nearby.
