Giurgiu is an important Danube River cruise port located in Romania's historic Muntenia region, positioned across the river from its sister city Ruse in Bulgaria. Operating primarily as an operational gateway rather than a tourist sightseeing hub, the town sits amid flat marshlands and rich agricultural plains on the river's left bank.
