About Cannes
Cannes is a resort city located on the French Riviera. The city is part of France's Alpes-Maritimes department and covers a total area of approximately 10 square kilometres with a population around 75,000. Cannes cruise port is a tender port, too small to accommodate larger cruise vessels, so large ships anchor in the bay and passengers are tendered ashore to the Old Port (Le Vieux Port).
The port has two marinas: Vieux Port de Cannes with 800 berths beside the Palais des Festivals, and Port Pierre Canto at the far end of the Croisette. Vieux Port is the main port and is used for cruise stopovers and yacht charters. The cruise ship terminal is new and offers all necessary facilities and modern amenities.
Cannes hosts the annual Cannes Film Festival, Midem, and Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. The Promenade de la Croisette is Cannes' waterfront avenue decorated with palm trees, popular for its picturesque beaches, cafes, restaurants and boutiques. The old town, Le Suquet, provides a magnificent view of La Croisette. The city is known for its association with the rich and famous, its luxury hotels and restaurants, and for several conferences.
Cannes serves as a gateway to other French Riviera resorts, like Nice, and is also a great stop on the way to Monte Carlo. The Cruise Globe lets cruisers log exactly where their ship sailed along this celebrated coast.
