Celebrity Edge is a mid sized Celebrity Cruises ship that entered service in 2018, carrying around 2,900 guests. She was built by STX France and became the largest ship in the Celebrity fleet by gross tonnage when she was delivered. Her godmother is Malala Yousafzai, the 2014 Nobel Peace laureate, who christened the ship in December 2018. From the start, the ship was designed around a more contemporary approach to life at sea, with public spaces and cabins making strong connections with the ocean.
The most recognisable feature is the Magic Carpet, a bright orange platform that moves between decks on the side of the ship. Depending on its position, it can serve as an outdoor dining area, an extension of the pool deck or a place for guests to board tenders. It is the sort of feature that gives Celebrity Edge a character of its own. The ship's Edge Staterooms also take a different approach to balconies, incorporating the veranda into the cabin so that the living space sits closer to the sea.
Dining offers plenty of choice, with four main restaurants sharing a core menu while each adds its own dishes. Specialty options include Raw on 5, a raw bar, while Luminae at The Retreat is reserved for suite guests. Eden combines dining, drinks and entertainment in a three deck space where the atmosphere changes throughout the day, with live music and shows adding to the setting.
Evenings bring more entertainment in the theatre, where performances use the space in unusual ways, including a stage that reaches into the audience. Around the ship, bars and lounges provide quieter alternatives for drinks and conversation. The accommodation ranges from standard staterooms to suites, with many cabins featuring Infinite Verandas that bring the balcony space into the room.
Celebrity Edge was designed with technology woven into everyday life on board. Guests can use smartphones to access their staterooms and control features in their cabins, while facial recognition and geo fencing are used as part of the arrival process.
