MS Kong Harald is a 1993-built ship and the first in a series of six contemporary Hurtigruten vessels. She carries around 600 passengers and was named after King Harald V of Norway. Introduced in 1993 to mark Hurtigruten's centenary, her interior carries decorative touches of the royal crown emblem throughout. The bar is named after polar explorer and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Fridtjof Nansen, while the cafe pays tribute to fellow explorer Roald Amundsen.
Kong Harald operates within Hurtigruten's Norwegian Coastal Voyages program, offering cruise ferry travel aboard passenger cargo ships and completing the round-trip itinerary in 11 days, taking in the Lofoten Islands and Vesterålen Islands along the way.
She brings together practicality and comfort in equal measure. Guests can enjoy generous portions in the main restaurant or opt for something lighter at the ship's bistro, with dining throughout emphasising authentic Norwegian specialties alongside international cuisine. Torget Restaurant serves as the main dining venue, with floor to ceiling windows, buffet stations, and an open galley, while Kysten Arctic Fine Dining offers a more intimate, upscale setting, serving some of the world's finest seafood, exotic meats, and other produce sourced directly from the Arctic region.
MS Kong Harald has 227 staterooms across 8 categories, including 2 suites, 204 outside cabins, and 21 inside cabins, with sizes ranging from 55 to 325 square feet (5 to 30 square metres). Most staterooms are outside cabins, typically between 85 and 140 square feet (8 to 14 square metres), and there are no balcony cabins on board. The Explorer Lounge and Panorama Bar offers comfortable seating alongside 270 degree floor to ceiling windows, plus a library and board games for quieter moments.
MS Kong Harald suits travellers after a genuine blend of authentic coastal travel and real seafaring hospitality, whether they're taking the full roundtrip or hopping between ports along Norway's remarkable coastline.
