MS Amadea is a cruise ship owned by Amadea Shipping Company and operated under charter by Germany-based Phoenix Reisen. She was originally built in 1991 by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Nagasaki, Japan, as MS Asuka for Nippon Yusen Kaisha, before being sold to her current owners in 2006 and entering service with Phoenix Reisen. At around 624 passengers, she's a small ship, giving her a distinct character in the German cruise market, and her compact size allows her to visit many exciting ports often inaccessible to larger vessels.
Between 2006 and 2013, the former Asuka underwent several refits and drydock refurbishments to tailor her for the European market, with public areas redesigned to suit German guest preferences. She's also known as the setting for the German TV series Das Traumschiff, which is filmed onboard.
MS Amadea is far from a modern party ship. The onboard atmosphere stays relaxed and informal, with formal attire reserved for festive evenings only. German is the sole official language onboard, which is why most Phoenix Reisen guests come from German speaking countries such as Germany, Austria, Belgium, and Switzerland. She offers 2 royal suites, 40 suites, and 254 cabins, with 106 featuring a private balcony.
Onboard, guests will find a full range of venues and activities, including the Vista Bar and Lounge, several further bars, the Atlantik Show Lounge, a wellness area, fitness centre, sauna, steam bath, golf garden, cinema, whirlpool, and swimming pool. The Amadea Spa and beauty salon add further quiet spaces for relaxation.
At 29,008 tons and 624 passengers, MS Amadea occupies a genuinely unique niche in the German cruise market, offering generous personal space throughout.
MS Amadea suits German-speaking guests who value a relaxed, unhurried atmosphere and the chance to explore ports off the beaten track aboard an intimate, mid-sized vessel.
