Wilderness Discoverer

Wilderness Discoverer is a small ship operated by UnCruise Adventures, built in 1992 by Blount Boats in Warren, Rhode Island, and carrying 76 passengers. She underwent extensive refurbishment in 2011 after being bought from former operator Glacier Bay Cruises. Like all UnCruise ships, she's USA flagged and crewed entirely by Americans, staying true to the line's small ship, homegrown ethos throughout Alaska's waterways.

Her shallow draft and hull design give her easy access to Alaska's wildlife areas and a wide range of adventure excursions. She cruises Southeast Alaska during the summer months, accompanied by a fully equipped fishing boat that travels alongside her throughout the voyage.

Her cabin arrangement stays genuinely intimate. Wilderness Discoverer has 38 cabins, all oceanview, spread across four grades, with four decks in total, three of which hold cabins and remain passenger accessible.

Meals are served buffet style at set times, with soda, juice, and lemonade included in the fare. The main lounge carries the feel of a neighbourhood pub or National Park lodge, complemented by a bar and library, while a spa area offers a sauna, massage room, fitness equipment, and two hot tubs.

Adventure equipment includes paddleboards, kayaks, inflatable skiffs, a hydrophone, and an underwater camera linked to the lounge and all cabin televisions, giving guests a genuine front-row seat to marine life below the surface as well as above it. This is the kind of small ship where cruisers get genuinely close to glaciers, wildlife, and remote coastlines, with a mix of guided exploration and plenty of chances to meet fellow passengers in confined but comfortable quarters.
