Rinca is a small island in Indonesia's Lesser Sunda Islands, close to Komodo and Flores. It is one of the three main islands of Komodo National Park and is visited for its wildlife, particularly the Komodo dragon. Rinca is generally less visited than neighboring Komodo Island, giving guided walks a quieter setting for seeing these large reptiles in their natural surroundings.

The Komodo dragon is the island's main attraction. These giant lizards can grow to around 3 meters long and share the island with wild pigs, water buffalo, monkeys, deer and a wide variety of birds. The surrounding landscape provides opportunities to see several of these species during a guided walk, although wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed.

Visitors exploring Rinca typically arrive at the Loh Buaya park facility by small boat. A jetty leads into the park, where visitors meet rangers before setting out on short or medium length walks. The guides accompany groups through the island and help visitors look for Komodo dragons and other wildlife. Following the marked routes and staying with the rangers is an important part of exploring the island safely.

Rinca is part of Komodo National Park, which protects a large area of islands and surrounding waters. The park is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a Man and the Biosphere Reserve. Its marine environment is particularly rich, with the waters around the islands forming part of the Coral Triangle, one of the world's most biodiverse marine regions.

The island's climate can make a walk demanding. Rinca is among the drier parts of Indonesia, receiving around 800 to 1,000 millimetres of rain each year. During the dry season from May to October, temperatures can reach around 40 degrees Celsius, so visitors should be prepared for strong heat and exposed walking conditions.

The combination of Komodo dragons, other island animals and exceptionally rich surrounding waters makes it one of the more unusual natural destinations in Indonesia.
