Ventus Australis is operated by Australis Cruises, a Chilean cruise company. Built in 2018, she carries a small passenger complement, making her a small expedition ship built to the same design as her sister ship Stella Australis, with both vessels purpose-built for Australis Cruises.
The ship features a yacht-like design, specifically engineered to navigate the Chilean Fjords and Patagonia's shallow bays and narrow channels at the southern tip of South America. This is the environment where Ventus Australis truly shines, with her size and design allowing access to remote landscapes and narrow waterways simply not available to larger ships.
All of Ventus Australis's cabins are outside facing with large picture windows, mostly floor-to-ceiling and non-opening, finished in contemporary, nautical themed decor with dark wood furniture. There are two cabin grades, Standard and Superior, with the Superior cabins offering more space and comfort, though all cabins share the same modern aesthetic and generous windows for taking in the scenery.
Dining is centered on the Patagonia Dining Room, which serves buffet-style breakfasts and lunches, along with four-course dinners blending Continental and traditional Chilean cuisine. The menu is designed by Peruvian chef Emilio Peschiera. Passengers are assigned to a table for the duration of the cruise, fostering a sociable atmosphere throughout the voyage. The Sky Lounge, an observation lounge with panoramic windows, hosts daily lectures and port talks, with self-service drinks available throughout the day.
This is a ship designed for travelers seeking intimate exploration of one of the world's remotest and most dramatic coastlines, where nature takes center stage, and the onboard experience is built entirely around access to the landscape itself.
