Club Med 2 is a five-masted sailing cruise ship launched in 1992 and operated by Club Med. She carries up to 386 passengers and ranks among the largest sailing cruise ships in the world, placing her as a small ship by mainstream standards. She combines seven computer-operated sails with diesel-electric power from four diesel generators driving two electric motors, a hybrid approach that lets her reach smaller harbors and anchorages larger ships cannot access. Her sister ship Club Med 1 was sold to Windstar Cruises and renamed Wind Surf in 1998.
What sets Club Med 2 apart is her all-inclusive model, built around a more intimate sailing experience. Cruises feature breakfast room service and two gourmet restaurants with evening waiter service included in the fare. The Mediterranee Restaurant blends international and exotic cuisine, complimentary during the day and à la carte in the evenings, with buffet-style breakfast, lunch and dinner served indoors or alfresco. Le Magellan Restaurant offers table-side waiter service for an additional charge, with a chef preparing rare and traditional French dishes, and cookery classes run several times a week.
Life aboard centers on deck space and water activities rather than stage shows. The Club Med Spa complex features five treatment rooms, a tea room for meditation, and a semi-private outdoor deck area. A swimming pool with a spacious sundeck sits alongside a piano bar and nightclub. All passenger cabins face outward with sea views and are configured for double occupancy, though some superior staterooms accommodate a third guest.
The ship underwent a full refurbishment in 2022, with a complete redesign of her interior spaces. Club Med 2 suits travelers who want to sail rather than sail past, preferring a smaller, all-inclusive environment over the scale and choice of mega-ships.
