Glen Massan is a traditional wooden fishing boat originally constructed in Baltimore, County Cork, Ireland, launched in nineteen seventy-five, and subsequently restored and converted into an intimate small cruise vessel relaunched in two thousand seven. Originally built for the Irish fishing fleet by the Irish government and scheduled to be broken up, the vessel was rescued from destruction when current owners Ken Grant and Andy Thoms purchased her in two thousand four.
Operated by The Majestic Line, a privately owned Scottish cruise company established in two thousand four and headquartered in Dunoon, the ship accommodates a maximum of twelve guests across six double cabins supported by a dedicated crew of six. This exceptionally small guest count ensures that passengers and crew quickly become well acquainted, fostering an intimate, warm, and highly personalized onboard atmosphere.
A traditional Scottish piper frequently greets guests boarding the vessel, which features a painted wooden hull and deckhouse topped with a polished wooden wheelhouse and a distinctive gold-painted funnel. The classic fishing boat offers a relaxed cruising experience akin to restored steam trains, providing a cozy, home-like environment rather than mainstream hotel-style luxury.
All guest accommodations are fitted with comfortable double beds, including at least one cabin specifically reserved for solo travelers seeking a peaceful voyage through Scottish waters. Each compact cabin features freshly laundered duvets, multiple pillows, tartan blankets for warmth, varnished wood paneling, an electric radiator, a ceiling-mounted fan, and a private shower room stocked with complimentary toiletries.
Operating primarily across the scenic lochs and islands of Scotland, the vessel relies on a small crew with deep local knowledge to ensure every holiday is uniquely enjoyable and authentic. The journey is specifically tailored for travelers who appreciate the historic character of a working vessel and desire genuine personal service over sprawling commercial amenities.
