About Atlantis Paradise Island Bahamas
Paradise Island sits just offshore from Nassau, about a mile from the northern tip of New Providence Island. The privately owned island is home to two major resorts, Atlantis Paradise Island and Royal Beach Club Bahamas. For cruise visitors, the island is accessed by tender boats from the cruise ship docked at Port Nassau.
Atlantis Paradise Island is an ocean themed resort covering 154 acres, with a casino, waterpark, marine habitats and a range of recreational facilities. The resort takes its inspiration from the legend of Atlantis, with the theme appearing throughout the property. The foyer features ceiling murals, while Plato’s bar takes its name from the philosopher who first described the lost city. The resort was rebranded as Atlantis Paradise Island following renovations and expansions, with the Royal Towers officially opening on December 11, 1998.
Marine life is a major part of the attraction. The resort’s open air marine habitat houses more than 65,000 aquatic animals from 250 species, including dolphins, sharks, sawfish and stingrays. At Aquaventure Waterpark, visitors can tackle waterslides such as the Leap of Faith, pass through shark tunnels or float along the mile long Rapids River. Beyond the slides, visitors can explore marine habitats featuring more than 250 species. Dolphin Cay offers opportunities to swim, wade or paddleboard alongside dolphins and sea lions, with educational encounters focused on conservation.
The island’s development began in 1959 following its purchase by George Huntington Hartford II, and Paradise Island officially opened in 1962. As of 2023, the resort is owned and operated by Brookfield Asset Management.
Royal Beach Club Bahamas is a private resort destination operated by Royal Caribbean International, with day passes available only to tourists travelling on Royal Caribbean ships. Royal Beach Club Paradise Island covers 17 acres and includes two beaches, three temperature controlled swimming pools, The Floating Flamingo and The Ultimate Family Cabana. It is designed around an all inclusive beach day, giving Royal Caribbean guests a dedicated place to enjoy the beach, pools and resort facilities.
